Opening:

"Thanksgiving" may be most associated with the one day a year Holiday. However, to believer's in Jesus as the Christ and their savior it is something that should be unofficially recognized daily throughout the year. It is our pathway to the divine peace that only the Lord God almighty can give to those of us who have believed on and received His Son as their only hope. Both in this life and the next.

Giving Thanks Always

In Christian theology, "Giving Thanks Always" refers to a state of continuous gratitude toward God, regardless of one's circumstances. This is based on biblical commands found in passages like 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and Ephesians 5:20, which instruct believers to give thanks in all circumstances and for everything.

This practice is meant to be a foundational aspect of a believer's life, rooted in trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, not a naive denial of hardship.

It should be important to note that giving thanks always and in everything regardless of the circumstances you find yourself in is thee best way to stay connected to God via His Holy Spirit. Therefore finding thee best way to advance out of or into a better state of place your currently in.

Core Principles of Giving Thanks:

  • Gratitude in all circumstances, not for all circumstances: This is a critical distinction. Believers are not expected to be grateful for tragedies, evil, or pain. Instead, they are called to be thankful in the midst of suffering, trusting that God can use even difficult times for their good and His glory (Romans 8:28).
  • Focus on God's character: Giving thanks always shifts a person's focus from their temporary problems to God's unchanging nature. By remembering that God is good, faithful, and always present, believers can find peace and hope even when life is challenging.
  • A reflection of God's will: The Bible explicitly states that giving thanks in all circumstances is God's will for those in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
  • A contrast to grumbling: Cultivating a heart of thankfulness is an active way to combat a spirit of complaint. By choosing gratitude, a person can guard their heart against bitterness and dissatisfaction.
  • Grounds for a spirit-filled life: The practice is directly connected to being filled with the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 5:18–20 places the instruction to give thanks always in the context of being filled with the Spirit, suggesting that gratitude is a natural outflow of a Spirit-filled life.

Ways To Practice
Thanksgiving Daily:

  1. Start the day with thanksgiving: Make it a habit to thank God as soon as you wake up. This intentional act can set a positive tone for the rest of your day, reminding you of God's mercies and blessings.
  2. Incorporate gratitude into your prayers: When praying, present requests with thanksgiving instead of only focusing on your needs. This trains your heart to acknowledge God's provision in every situation.
  3. Keep a gratitude journal: Writing down what you are thankful for helps you to remember and reflect on God's blessings, both large and small. It is an intentional practice that counters forgetfulness.
  4. Remember God's past faithfulness: Reflecting on how God has been faithful in the past builds confidence and trust for the present and future. The book of Psalms is a model for this type of remembrance.
  5. Talk about your gratitude: Intentionally sharing what you are thankful for with others can strengthen your own heart and provide a powerful witness of God's goodness.
